To be able to demonstrate how one can apply the elements of tension that I have examined during block 2, I will going forward create audio files that build on a feeling of tension. For the first example, I’m setting a limit on how long the audio file may be, since the first segment of “The Joker’s theme” that I analyzed during block 2 had the same length, this feels like a reasonable timeframe. During this minute, I intend to develop the elements that I stacked up during the same analysis.
I intend to avoid musical elements and instead focus on sound design in this case. To be able to work quickly, I will source samples [samples is a term for audio files] from sound libraries that I consider to fit the categories of elements that I stacked up during the analysis. These will be arranged in the DAW [abbreviation for Digital Audio Workstation] Ableton Live 9, and after the work is finished, it will be presented in my workbook together with a reflection where I explain my thought process during the work. After I have finished the audio file, I intend to compare it with an existing work to see how it relates to another creator’s ideas about tension. I will do this through a brief analysis of both works and then stack up their similarities and contrasts.
When I am finished with the entire phase I have described, I will begin on a new phase where I set up new rules based on the analyses I have made in the previous phase. I will strive to find natural ways to build tension.
